The United States Department of Transportation (DOT) mandates refresher training for Breath Alcohol Technicians (BATs) at least every five years in order to stay in compliance with the DOT regulations. According to 49 C.F.R. Part 40.213(e), five-year refresher training must include re-training on all of the same components covered in the initial qualification training except Basic Information training. This means that refresher training includes Qualification Training and Initial Proficiency Demonstrations monitored by a qualified trainer. This course will include both of these requirements and also include after-support for BATs who complete this training. Initial Proficiency Demonstrations will be completed by virtual teleconference instruction using a webcam and microphone. The total estimated time to complete this course is 4 hours.

This group of courses is designed specifically for those who have received training already and now only need to complete their “mock” demonstrations or they only need to complete their five-year refresher training to stay up-to-date on their certifications.

  • Refresher Training: These courses are designed for those collectors or alcohol testing technicians who are close to their training expiration date or have already had their training expire and need to take the refresher course to stay in compliance and up-to-date for another five year period. This training course will include Re-Qualification Training and Proficiency Demonstrations. The DOT Refresher Training Courses will comply with their respective DOT Refresher Training Requirements as set forth in 49 CFR Part 40.33(e) and 49 CFR Part 40.213(e).
  • Mock Collections: These courses are developed to assist collector and alcohol technician trainees who have already completed their Basic Information and Qualification Training requirements as set forth in 49 CFR Part 40.33(a)-(b) and 49 CFR Part 40.213(a)-(b) and now only require the initial proficiency demonstrations in accordance with 49 CFR Part 40.33(c) and 49 CFR Part 40.213(c).
