pIf you’re serious about getting into the drug testing business, you may want to consider the fact that going mobile could be a great option. There are some differences between going mobile and having a storefront business, so you’ll want to keep these in mind as you are writing up your business plan.
The Advantages of Going Mobile
The mobile drug testing business model offers advantages to both the company conducting the drug testing and their clients. For your screening business, it means that you don’t have to pay as much for having office space, lab facilities to actually conduct the testing, and so forth. You will still need equipment that allows you to conduct the drug tests on site – privacy curtains, collection equipment, etc. – but the costs of these items is typically far lower than would be the costs of opening up a brick-and-mortar location.
The other big advantage is that you are less restricted to a localized market. While there may be some reliable, regular clients in an area where you can open up a brick-and-mortar operation, going mobile means you can go where the business is. This might enable you to cover a very large geographical area and, on top of that, it would also allow you to cover businesses that tend to move around a great deal. For example, the drug testing business could conduct randomized drug tests on site for petroleum extractors, who may move between several different locations over a given period of time. This can be very convenient for your clients.
One of the big challenges you will face as a mobile drug testing provider is the fact that you don’t have a permanent presence in a community, which means that it may be more difficult for people to find out that you even exist as an option. You can, however, counteract this with skillful marketing.
Having an online presence is obviously a requirement for any modern business. You should also make efforts to integrate yourself with other, similar businesses. For example, a company that provides industrial safety consultations may very well benefit from being able to recommend a solid drug testing company to their clients as needed. This could allow you to share clients with such a company without competing with one another.
Going mobile is definitely an option if you want to get into the drug testing business. Make sure that you investigate any certifications that are required for such businesses and, once you’re ready to go, remember that, for your business, the location of your clients really isn’t a hindrance to making a profit.
